Bringing People Together Through Dialogue, Understanding, and Shared Experiences
SEED (Simcoe Engage and Empower with Dialogue) is excited to invite community members, leaders, and advocates for diversity and inclusion to a special Iftar Dinner on March 22, 2025, at the Allandale Recreation Centre in Barrie.
This gathering is designed to foster intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and social harmony by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds for an evening of meaningful conversation and connection.
What is Iftar?
Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal that Muslims observe during Ramadan, one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar. From dawn until sunset, Muslims fast from food and drink, breaking their fast at Iftar, a meal that represents community, generosity, and shared blessings.
The tradition of gathering for Iftar extends beyond religious observance—it is a deeply social experience that brings people together, fosters conversations, and strengthens bonds.
Why Attend?
This event is more than just a meal—it is an opportunity to:
✅ Experience the traditions of Ramadan
✅ Engage in meaningful conversations
✅ Build bridges between cultures and communities
✅ Celebrate unity and inclusivity in Simcoe County
This year’s Iftar Dinner also coincides with Simcoe County’s #ITSTARTS campaign, which raises awareness about racism, discrimination, and the importance of fostering inclusive communities. Hosting the dinner as part of this campaign highlights SEED’s commitment to promoting dialogue, diversity, and social cohesion.
“An event like this is particularly important in today’s world, where understanding and respect across cultures are essential for a strong and united community,” said SEED board member Sarah Aydin. “By coming together, we can break barriers, foster relationships, and create a sense of belonging for all.”
